Message from the 2023 Core Conference Committee

Welcome to the 2023 CEGA Core Conference!  This year’s conference will be held at the Alberta Energy Regulator Core Research Center on May 11th and 12th.  Of note, this will be the Thursday and Friday proceeding the 2023 GeoConvention, which is scheduled for May 15th-17th.  We are excited to have another fully in-person event that facilitates hands on learning, collaboration, and networking.

The 2023 theme is “Let the Rocks Talk: The Past, Present and Future of Energy Resources.”  The theme is aimed to acknowledge that core work was essential to unlocking historic plays, is fundamental in today’s exploration and development, and will continue to be integral in the ever-evolving future landscape of energy resources.  Together we can celebrate top tier geotechnical work and innovations within our industry and recognize how this research and exploration has positioned Canada as a resource leader.

This year’s conference will include core presentations from outstanding researchers, oil and gas practitioners, and renewable energy scientists. Please join us in returning to the foundation of our science by listening to the rocks and in the company of each other.  We are excited to have presentations based on rock from across Western Canada and beyond that encompass enhanced recovery, carbon capture, conventional hydrocarbon reservoirs and new emerging resources.

We are excited to welcome back familiar faces and meet new ones!  The highly anticipated Core Meltdown will conclude the final day of the conference on May 12th and will be a great place to continue catching up in a festive environment.

On behalf of the organizing committee, we thank you for your continued support of the conference and the CEGA. Any questions can be sent to [email protected].

We look forward to bringing together Canada’s geoscience community and seeing you in May!
