CSPG Bookstore: Frequently Asked Questions

1. Do CSPG Members get a discount on books?

Yes, CSPG members receive a 25% discount on all regularly priced CSPG titles. The member prices for these books are listed in the catalogue. If a title is described as being "one price for all", the member discount does not apply. CSPG Members also receive a 10% discount on the purchase of AAPG, SEPM and AGI books (when purchased through the CSPG office). Your member number, listed on your member card, must be included with your order to receive your discount.

2. Do members of other societies - for exampe AAPG, SEPM, CSEG, etc - receive discounts on CSPG books?

There are no discounts on CSPG books for members of other societies at this time.

3. Which methods of payment do you accept?

Prepayment is required on all orders. The CSPG accepts VISA, MasterCard or a Canadian funds cheque drawn on a Canadian bank as payment. All U.S. cheques will be returned to the customer, even if you write "Canadian Funds" on them, as there is a substantial fee for processing them through our bank.

4. What currency are your prices listed in?

5. How does your bulk discount policy work?

The CSPG offers 10% off orders which are over $500.00 (excluding shipping costs). This applies to regularly priced CSPG books only. Regularly priced books are those with a "List Price" and published by the CSPG. This offer is not applicable to books listed as "one price for all", consignment titles or books from other associations, namely AAPG, SEPM, AGI, GSC, GAC, or Palaeontographica Canadiana Canadiana. If you are not sure whether this discount applies to your order, you are welcome to fax a copy to 403-264-5898 and we will assess the discount for you.

6. What method of shipment do you use?

CSPG orders shipped within Canada and to the Continental United States are shipped via UPS Ground service. Please allow 4-6 weeks for delivery. International orders are shipped via Canada Post Service. International orders may be shipped by either surface (approximately 8-12 weeks for delivery) or air (approximately 3-4 weeks for delivery) mail. Shipping fees for international orders are calculated using current Canada Post rates. Please either fax us (at 403-264-5898) or email us (reception@cspg.org) and we will determine the shipping cost for your order.

We also offer express courier shipping via UPS. If you are interested in shipping via this method, please fax a copy of your order to 403-264-5898 or email to reception@cspg.org and we will provide you with a shipping quote. (Shipping quotes are based on ups.com rate quotes plus a $5.00 handling fee.)

7. Is there a price break in shipping if I order more than one book?

Each publication has a shipping price which is based on its weight and current UPS rates. If you are ordering more than one book, please use the highest shipping rate as your base price and add $3.00 for each additional book. For example, if you have two books, one with a rate of $10 and the other $7.50, please use $10 as your base and add $3.00 for each additional book.

8. If I want to order a AAPG, SEPM, GSC , AGI or GAC book which you do not carry, will you special order it for me?

The CSPG handles a select list of titles from other organizations - books we feel are of interest to our membership and well worth the cost of bringing them to you. Unfortunately, we are not able to stock all of the books these societies produce. In the event we do not carry a title you are interested in, we ask that you contact the publishing society directly to place an order.

9. Do you offer standing orders or subscriptions?

The only titles we offer subscriptions for are the Bulletin of Canadian Petroleum Geology and the CSPG Reservoir. For more information, please view Bulletin Subscription Form.

10. Does the CSPG have a library and can you do material / library searches?

The CSPG does not have a library. All publications currently available are offered in our bookstore only.

The CSPG office does not offer to do material/library searches, as we simply do not have the technology to handle such requests. When it comes to viewing out of print CSPG materials (anything which is no longer for sale) or material searches we would suggest you contact the Gallagher Library at the University of Calgary, as they have a great deal of CSPG material on site.

Please note that we are unable to photocopy from books which we currently have for sale.

11. The book I am looking for is not listed in your catalog. How do I purchase it?

All books which are currently available for sale are listed on the CSPG Website. If the book you are looking for is not included, chances are it is OUT OF PRINT and no longer available for sale. Please note: We realize that very few titles are currently listed for sale. The CSPG has sold out of many titles in the past few years and those titles are simply no longer available. This includes the Geological Atlas of the Western Canada Sedimentary Basin.

If you are looking to access an out of print title, we suggest you contact the Gallagher Library at the University of Calgary (Telephone: 403-220-6042 or visit www.ucalgary.ca) as their library has a very extensive collection of CSPG material. (The CSPG does not have a library at this time.) You may also wish to contact your local used bookstore for their assistance.

To purchase publications, you may visit the CSPG Office directly, or you are welcome to mail or fax your order to us. (addresses and numbers are listed on the order form.) Please note that all orders require prepayment - we accept Visa, MasterCard or Cheque (Cdn funds cheques drawn on a Cdn bank only) as payment. All prices listed in Cdn Funds. We do not accept U.S. funds.
