Student Conferences
Western Inter-University Geosciences Conference (WIUGC)
The Western Inter-University Geosciences Conference (WIUGC) is an annual student-run event where undergraduate and graduate geosciences students present their research through posters and technical presentations, discuss job opportunities, recent discoveries and technologies. The conference rotates between universities in Western Canada (British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba) and averages three hundred attendees every year.
The intention is to increase student interest and participation in the geoscience
disciplines, to give students the chance to present their research
work and experiences, discuss issues in geoscience, and to learn
about other advances in the geosciences in the process. In addition,
students will have the opportunity to meet other students, university
faculty, and industry representatives who are experienced and recognized
in their respective fields. Research presentations are competitive,
with prizes handed out to the top students.
