Reservoir Committee – Content Generator
How would you like to help expand the Reservoir? Perhaps you know of subjects that the Reservoir should include. Or maybe you would like to volunteer, but you're not sure where to start. Why don't you join the Reservoir Committee? The Reservoir, a monthly magazine, is a means of communicating the Society's news and events, and also offers technical content of geologic interest.
Reporting to the Technical Editor, the Content Generator will perform the following tasks:
- Assist in obtaining content for the Reservoir and;
- Attend the monthly Reservoir meetings.
Considerations
- Time commitment is about 3-6 hours a month.
Reservoir Committee – Writer
Do you like to write? Are you interested in sharing your geological expertise with the CSPG Membership? Why not join the Reservoir Committee? The CSPG's monthly magazine, the Reservoir, is a means of communicating the Society's news and events, and also offers technical content of interest to the petroleum industry.
Reporting to the Technical Editor, the Content Generator will perform the following tasks:
- Write content of Society or geologic interest for the Reservoir.
- In consultation with the Technical and Coordinating Editors, identify subject matter and write articles.
- Attend the monthly Reservoir meetings.
Considerations
- Writers must be able to express ideas clearly and logically and should enjoy writing. Creativity, curiosity, a broad range of knowledge, self-motivation, and perseverance are also valuable.

Publication Index Committee Member
The Publications Index Committee regularly reviews papers in CSPG Bulletins and Memoirs in order to identify specific keywords that can be effectively used in literature search engines, such as the CSPG Index.
The Committee meets as a group once every one or two months to review keywords for each CSPG paper. Once agreement on recommended keywords (including NTS areas and geographic areas) is reached, the Chair enters these keywords into the CSPG Index database.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Review keywords assigned to each CSPG paper; and
- Discuss the rationale for selecting these keywords with the Committee.
- Note that keywords (or subjects) can be defined as "words under which you would expect that paper to be listed" and which contain significant geological data.
Qualifications
- Familiarity with computerized literature search processes such as the CSPG Index; and
- Recognition of common keywords in the geological literature.
Considerations
- One Committee meeting at noon every one-two months.
Geofluids Division – Coordinator
The long-standing Hydrogeology Division has been reinvented as the Geofluids Division to reflect the understanding that sedimentary basins are complex, multi-phase dynamic systems which integrate a range of biological, chemical and physical processes over geological time to produce petroleum and other economic resources. This Division provides a forum for discussion of research into the role of all fluids in mineralogical, chemical, and structural evolution of the Earth's crust, emphasizing subsurface fluid movement and the associated bio-geo-chemical and physical processes of petroleum systems.
The Division typically hosts an informal brown-bag talk every month, except during the summer. Talks are held on the third Thursday of each month starting at 12:00 noon and finishing before 1:00 p.m. Each talk consists of a 40 minute technical presentation followed by a 10 minute question period. Currently, our monthly talks are held at the ConocoPhillips Auditorium, which can be found on the +15 level on the west end of the building (401 - 9th Avenue SW, Calgary).
Reporting to the Chair of the Geofluids Division, the Coordinator will perform the following tasks:
- Assist in inviting lunch time speakers;
- Hosting the talks once a month; and
- Sending out announcements.
Qualifications
- Preferably a member of the CSPG.
Considerations
- Time commitment is about 2 to 3 hours a month but this is flexible and doesn't have to be every month.
