The University Outreach committee proudly organizes an annual cross country lecture tour series, where leading geoscientists present their research at major Canadian universities. This is a great opportunity to learn about the latest trends, meet industry professionals and academics, and brush elbows with fellow students. We also support Canadian student-run such as the AUGC, AESRC, and WIUGC, with funding, awards, and sending delegates from the University Outreach Committee to judge presentations and hob knob with students.

The other major flagship program of CSPG Outreach is, which has been running annually for over 30 years. Each year the SIFT Committee selects a top student from each Canadian university offering an Earth Science program, and brings them to Calgary for a two week introduction to the petroleum industry. The highlights of the program are a 4 day field trip through the Rocky Mountains, lectures on a variety of petroleum geology topics from a variety of leading academic and industry professions, and a competitive and interactive exploration project where teams of students learn the skills to find oil and gas plays.

Our committee is comprised of young geoscientists who work for a variety of roles in small to large companies in the energy industry. We meet on a regular basis to discuss how we can best encourage and support university students they navigate through the academic and into the professional world. We always welcome feedback on our programs, lectures and events.
