Award: Certificate, Cash Awards ($5,000 for Ph.D., $4,000 for M.Sc., $500 for Honorable Mention)

Criteria for Award: Eligible theses are either produced in a Canadian university, regardless of project location, or deal with a Canadian sedimentary/petroleum geology topic, regardless of university of origin. Theses entered for the 2023 awards must have been submitted to a recognized university inside or outside of Canada and must have formed part of the requirements for degrees awarded at the Fall 2022 or Spring 2023 convocations.  Candidates theses must be well written and clearly and adequately illustrated.

PhD : Mastaneh Liseroudi for her thesis titled "Regional Diagenesis and Fluid Flow Study of the Early Triassic Montney Formation as Related to H2S Generation" It was supervised by Per Pedersen at the University of Calgary and Hamed Sanei from the Geological Survey of Canada.

PhD Honorable Mention: Henry Galvis Portilla,  for his thesis titled "Sedimentology, Stratigraphy and Reservoir Characterization of the Late Devonian Duvernay Formation of the East Shale Basin: an Integrated outcrop and Subsurface Study". It was supervised by Per Pedersen at the University of Calgary.

MSc Winner: Kristian Girotto for his thesis titled "Tectono-Stratigraphic Model for the Early Evolution of the Late Cretaceous Nanaimo Group: Georgia Basin, British Columbia, Canada". It was supervised by Prof. Shahin Dashtgard at Simon Fraser University.
