novel coronavirus (COVID-19)

The City of Calgary announced a state of local emergency due to COVID-19 and asked businesses in Calgary to limit their occupancy to 50 per cent of their capacity and earlier this month, the Alberta government requested that all large gatherings and international events in the province be cancelled immediately. To that effect, CSPG’s CORE Conference, originally scheduled for May 2020, will be postponed. New dates will be announced when they become available. For a list of all postponed events, please refer to our events list

Last year’s Core Conference 2019 attracted 736 delegates and 27 presentations that covered various themes such as Carbonates, Conventional, and Unconventional.

The planning committee is excited to participate in celebrating geology across Canada and look forward to igniting the disciplines within the geoscience community. This coming May, Core Conference will bring together all disciplines of geology to Calgary and the committee is looking forward to expanding the breadth of content for the 2020 Core Conference. We are looking to include examples from all facets of geoscience, whether it is sedimentary, igneous or metamorphic.

This year, we will be holding the conference on May 7-8th, kicking off the start of GeoConvention. We are excited for some of the timing changes this year, including moving the core Meltdown back to Friday evening, and hosting a Networking Social sponsored by Core Laboratories on the Thursday Evening. In addition, The Core Meltdown sponsored by Chinook Consulting Services and ROGII will be hosted this year at Jameson’s Irish Pub in Brentwood, where we expect good times to be had by all.

Thank you again to those of you who continue to sponsor, present or participate as a delegate at the CSPG Core Conference. It is with continued support from all of you that we can make this event one of the premier conferences in Canadian Geoscience.
